Keep the ridge capping secure and weather-tight
Cracked or crumbling pointing around the ridge capping is a common sight on older tiled roofs. Flexible roof pointing helps secure the caps and seal the ridge while allowing for the small amount of movement a roof goes through.
If you can see cracked pointing, loose sections or gaps around ridge caps, it is worth dealing with them before wind and rain make the problem worse. We check the bedding underneath as well as the visible pointing.
What we check around the ridge capping
- Inspect the ridge caps, bedding and existing pointing
- Remove loose or failed material where required
- Re-bed ridge caps if the bedding has failed
- Apply flexible pointing to suitable areas
- Check the ridge line and clean the work area
Pointing is only as good as the bedding underneath
If the ridge caps are loose because the bedding has broken down, simply smearing new material over the top is not a proper fix. We check the condition underneath and repair what is actually needed.
We also keep an eye out for nearby broken tiles, valley issues and flashing defects while we are on the roof, as these can cause similar leak symptoms.
Can you see cracks along the ridge line?
From the ground you may notice gaps, missing sections or rough, crumbling pointing. If in doubt, we can inspect it and let you know whether it needs local repair or more extensive ridge work.
Where we work
Flexible roof pointing is available across Greater Sydney, particularly for established tiled homes in Western Sydney, the Hills, North Shore and southern suburbs.
Flexible Roof Pointing FAQs
What is the difference between bedding and pointing?
Bedding supports the ridge tiles; pointing is the weatherproof finishing layer around them.
Can cracked pointing cause leaks?
Yes. It can allow wind-driven rain into vulnerable areas and may indicate movement or deterioration that needs inspection.
Do you repoint the whole roof or only damaged areas?
That depends on condition. We recommend the scope that makes practical sense after inspection.
